Earlier it was company's responsibility to pay tax on behalf of shareholders that's why dividend distribution tax is deducted and it was paid to govt but now since digitalisation in share market through demat accs it was assesse duty to pay tax on it So DTT tax is irrelevant now I hope you understand the purpose
